I also chose the name Francesca because they're aren't very many Disney characters whose name starts with an F.Ī miller wants to seem important, so he goes to the king and says "Guess what? My daughter - the really pretty one - can spin straw into gold!" The king gets greedy, asks the daughter to come to the castle and basically locks her in a room with a spinning wheel, demanding all the straw be woven by morning after three nights, or off with her head. So, in the end, I decided to make her a mix she's tomboyish like Mulan (hence the short hair), work-dedicated like Tiana, book-smart like Belle, and spirited like Ariel. I modeled her based on what princesses girls mostly gravitated towards. So, I did some research and wrote my pitch for a Disneyfied Rumpelstiltskin, with my Hispanic princess Francesca I figured that if Disney can Americanize Princess and the Frog, they can do something similar. The story is the long-lost Brothers' Grimm fairytale Rumpelstiltskin. I found someone else proposed an idea for a Latina princess Now I'm not ripping her off because I had a different story in mind. Asian (Mulan), Middle Eastern (Jasmine) and of course, Caucasian (everyone else falls here) But then there's a culture missing Hispanic. Now there are different colored princesses now Native American (Pocahontas), African American (Tiana). I was cruising through my nostalgia of Disney and my mind came to the princesses.
